Camera Wishlist

I just lost my beloved 7 megapixel camera. Spare me your accusations of materialism, I miss what it let me do more than the object itself. You don’t call amputees materialistic, do you? Not that my camera was a third arm, but it was close.

Now I’m in the awkward position of paying for something I should by all counts have. But as long as I have to do it again, I can try to resolve some issues I had that didn’t make sense re-spending money on.

Transfer speeds

Cameras need to transmit their data faster. Megapixels are multiplying like Tribbles but bandwidth is staying put. I don’t want to have to get an external card reader, but I might just have to, to avoid the USB 1.1 crawl. Where are the USB2 and Firewire cameras?

Wireless

Kodak and Nikon have released wifi cameras that transmit the photos to your computer over the same connection as your laptop connects to the internet. Too bad the only cameras with wifi available suck. Kodak’s Easyshare makes you use their online service, previously known as oPhoto.

Interface

Why hasn’t the electronics industry, as a whole, figured out that usable interfaces are a competitive advantage? IF just one company thought out their camera controls they’d be miles ahead of their competitors and people would notice. I’d make it myself, but I don’t really have the necessary resources at my disposal.
