Unless you live under a rock without an internet connection, or haven’t seen Lazy Sunday which is even more unlikely, you know about Google Maps. Type in an address at maps.google.com and you are rewarded with an idiot proof map. I’ve also stumbled across a little known feature that will make your maps even easier for other people to read.
Entering your address will show the surrounding neighborhood, and a comic book-like speech bubble containing the exact address and links to set it as a start or end point for driving directions. The heading simply reads “Address:” Here’s what I discovered:
You can change the heading to read as anything you type after the address in the search bar, if it’s enclosed in parentheses.
This way, you can add important information such as the date and time of a party, what buzzer to press, BYOB, even other parentheses! It’s up to you, Google Maps is flexible.
Then simply click the “Link to this page” link on the upper right, and send people the resulting web page address in an email. Unfortunately, the custom heading disappears when you get directions. But this is still really helpful for telling people more about the location you’re sending them.
