del.icio.us just added a new feature. You can now add other users into your network, making it easier to keep track of other people’s bookmarks, or as I like to call it “getting down with OPB” (yeah, you know me!).
Your network page shows the most recent bookmarks across all your contacts, just like Flickr’s Friends page does. And when you tag a new bookmark, deli.icio.us provides you with a shortcut to mark it for a particular contact. Next to SMS, this has to be the laziest way to tell someone about something you find interesting.
del.icio.us is a social bookmarking tool, but now the social connections are more concrete. It was always easy to see what the collective thought was interesting, but you had to keep track of your real-life friends’ separately. Now you can track what your friends are linking on one page.
It won’t be long before del.icio.us adds profile pages, where you can put poorly cropped images of yourself and friends, Pearl Jam songs that play once the page has loaded, and quirky non-sequiters about how online dating hasn’t worked out yet. But only time will tell.
