For the Record

It’s become quite clear that corporate interests are stifling innovation in the marketplace. New technology, that could be benefiting people, is being hindered because it confounds entrenched business models. Just look at the music and movie industries, and you’ll see them fighting tooth and nail against the very consumers that make their business possible in the first place, just because some Finnish hacker can illegally distribute their copyrighted property. They are ignoring markets that are as clear as day, simply because they fear change. But instead of responding to the changes in the marketplace, as even the most rudimentary economics dictates they should, they are lobbying the government and trying to change the rules instead.

This is a serious problem.

Right now the music industry has already had copyright law rewritten, in the form of the Digital Millenium Copyright Act, and the telcos are trying to double dip by charging access to the internet on both the user’s and producer’s end.

I’ll talk more about this in the future, but I wanted to get this out in the open.
