This weekend marked the first installment of possibly several lightsaber battles across the city. LightsabersNYC is the brainchild of one Gideon Levy, an acquaitance from back in the day, and tour guide extraordinaire. A self-proclaimed “lightsaber enthusiast,” his event drew dozens of curious onlookers, and Star Wars nerds.
The event had a decidedly political bent, featuring the satirical likes of Darth Bush (later revealed to be the puppet-master Emperor Cheney), and Obi-Ted Kennedobi. It was more silly than scathing, and I was sure there would be arrests for unlawful assembly, but a great way to spend an hour on a sunny Saturday afternoon. And who knows, if the idea increases its following, maybe Triumph the insult comic dog will make an appearance
