Daylight Savings Costs Millions (probably)

Time fliesI still have a cell phone that won’t adjust for daylight savings automatically. People still have alarm clocks that don’t either. My camera has a really fancy timezone feature with a map that shows which zone you’re in, and a calendar so it knows the exact time I snapped a picture. But I have to manually turn daylight savings on and off.

Why do we put up with this? It is extremely inconvenient, especially since the amount of electronics we rely on grows exponentially. You wouldn’t hire a person who couldn’t remember to perform their one task at regular intervals throughout the year.

What’s one hour right? Well it’s the fact that this isn’t a new problem, but it’s gone largely unsolved despite countless software and hardware revisions over the years. Why the time can’t come preset on a clock is ridiculous. Why there can’t be a battery backup inside to keep it running if you unplug a clock for 5 seconds, is likewise ridiculous.

If technology is supposed to improve the quality of life, serve us rather than the other way around, then the “little things” should be taken care of without our hand holding.
