If you live in New York, you should know about OnNYTurf’s MTA Google Maps mashup. It’s an actual map of the city, with the subway map overlaid. You can actually tell how close a subway station is to a particular address! It’s surprisingly unprecedented.
What’s missing on their site though is a link to install their Firefox search plugin. I took the liberty of creating it myself.
Install the OnNYTurf Search Plugin
They went through the trouble of creating a Firefox search engine plugin and even a logo, but tell you to install it yourself. I’ve notified the proper authorities, and maybe they’ll add this link themselves.
Firefox users might also find adding a quick search bookmark helpful.
- Bookmark On NY Turf quick search
- Add it to your Quick Searches bookmark folder
- Right-click it, and select Properties
- In the Keyword box, type ‘mta’ or ’subway’
- Click OK
Now from your location bar, you can type ‘mta [address]’ and Firefox will take you straight to the map with [address] highlighted.
More on quick searches.
